Spring 2010 Class Registration Information (Teens)

Looking for Class Information for Kids ages 8-12? Check out the post below this one!

Hello AGDT Teen Families -

Thanks for being patient as I’ve been working out the details about the teen class. It’s more difficult to coordinate this group since there are so many busy people involved! I received responses from several of you regarding the spring semester and I have done the best I can to make the dates work for as many people as possible. I apologize to those who may have conflicts – this was the best option for the overall group.

Anyway - I'm happy to announce that I think we will have enough kids to have the class, and I have found another play to follow-up the very successful AGDT teen productions of Little Women (Fall 2007) and Ms. Scrooge (Fall 2008)! This spring’s play is called Lost and Foundling and it is the story of a girl named Pryce who has spent her entire life living in a Price Mart store (think Walmart!). Here’s the description from the Dramatic Publishing website –

“Unusual things don't usually happen at Price Mart, but at this Mega Price Mart a mega-unusual thing happened once: a little girl was born. Or left. Or got lost in the aisles and her parents never found her. Whatever it was that happened, it was her destiny to be discovered between Truck Mirrors and Oil Filters by some Price Mart associates. They name her Pryce and raise her. Her first word is "affordable." It's a good life at Price Mart, all things considered: clean, well-lit, lots of stuff at reasonable prices, but her discovery one day that there's a place called Lost and Found all the way on the other side of the store sparks restlessness and curiosity about where she came from. What follows is an epic journey of hilarious proportions as our intrepid heroine sets off alone down strange aisles, through unfamiliar sale zones, past new and threatening merchandise. Armed with only her wits and a celebrity magazine, will Pryce manage to evade dangerous pitfalls like the Demanding Shopper and the Neverending Line? Will she ever make it to the western edge of the store? And even if she does find the Lost and Found counter, will she ever uncover the truth about her real family? A comic and contemporary myth set in the recognizable world of changing rooms, free samples, and incandescent lights that never turn off, Lost and Foundling is a modern retail fairy tale about growing up, self-reliance, and big big savings.”I have read the script several times and it is definitely a comedy within the range of the AGDT teens – they will appreciate the humor and have a blast with it, I’m sure!

There are 11 spaces available in this class. Quite a few of the roles will be doubled to make part sizes fair. There are a few “main” characters, but also several supporting characters that are incredibly funny and will give the opportunity for great “character acting.” We will be working a lot on comic timing! The class is intended for girls ages 12 and older. Please feel free to forward this email to friends who may be interested in participating - we won't be able to have the class unless enough people sign up!

Classes will be held at my house in Lees Summit. I will send directions to the enrolled students' families before the classes begin.

The class will begin on Thursday, February 4 and run weekly through April 8 from 6-8pm. PLEASE NOTE – due to prior commitments in my schedule, there will be no class on March 4. The play will be performed at Faith Baptist Church, and the final rehearsal (April 8) will be at the church as well. The performance of the play will be on Saturday, April 10, at 7:30pm. The girls will need to arrive at the church at 2:00pm for a final dress rehearsal on the day of the play. We will have dinner and have time to do everyone's hair and makeup before it's showtime!

Pricing is as follows: $90 for one daughter, $85 each for two daughters. The cost is more expensive than the typical AGDT fee to cover the cost of performance royalties and scripts that must be purchased from the publisher (your daughter will get to keep her script). The full class fee is required with registration (if this is a problem, let me know and I’m sure we can work something out – it is a requirement due to problems I have had in past semesters). Your registration and payment will hold your space in the class. The class space is limited and will be filled first-come, first-serve, in the order I receive the registrations. You can still email/call to ask about availability, but I can't hold spaces without your registration.

To register for the class, please send me your email address so that I can get you the registration form. You can email me at directorjewels@yahoo.com or leave a message on this post and I'll get back to you soon!

PLEASE NOTE – I will be out of town January 14-21. If you try to get in touch with me during that time, I likely will not answer! Don’t panic – I will get back to you as soon as I can. If you haven’t heard back from me by Saturday, January 23, feel free to call/email again.

One last thing – AGDT now has a fan page on facebook! If you’re on fb, please become a fan! I occasionally give some updates and post photos, performance info, etc. There’s always an event for the upcoming performance so that you can invite your friends and family, too!

Thanks!
Julie
