AGDT Spring 2014 Teens Class Registration Information

Feel free to pass on the word about AGDT to any homeschool support groups or friends who may be interested!  Thank you!

Please make sure to read ALL the information below - several things have changed.
AGDT Teen Classes are for girls ages 13 and older.  Age 12 is okay if they have previously participated in at least two past AGDT Classes.

Teen Monologue 3-week Class
Memorization & Character Development Techniques
February 4, 11 - 4:30-6:00pm
February 18 - 4:30-6:30pm
Minimum of 6 to have class.
$25 or $20 if also participating in a performance class.

This new class is an option for those who are not able to be involved in the performance class or who are unsure they want to be part of a performance just yet. It can also be a precursor to the performance class, a "warm-up" of sorts. It's not required! Just fun.

This short class will enable us to delve into the art of developing a character through the practice of memorizing a monologue. We will work on presentation, discuss basic costuming, and reflect on the intonations of line delivery. My hope is that this class will be helpful in preparing to portray larger roles in future teen classes.

The final week (February 18), we will have a class-only recitation of all of the prepared monologues, which is why the timeframe is longer!

Performance Classes
The teen group has grown quite large, I am offering two separate classes. These are both one-act plays (around 30-35min performance time) that will be performed the same night.

The crossover time between classes (5:00-5:30pm) will allow us to have a group improvisation class section - and maintain the overall group atmosphere that the AGDT teens have developed in the past couple of years.

Class is Full. 1/20/2014 - 6:00pm
Tuesday A (3:30-5:30pm)Xingu.  New to the AGDT line-up, I think this play will become a favorite. It is a 1-Act (26-page) script featuring a plethora of interesting characters to portray. The time frame will likely be the 1940's or 1950's. This play provides the opportunity for our teens to develop characters who are middle-aged and opinionated. There are 8 spaces available in this class.

Here’s the description from the Dramatists website – "A group of club-women try to entertain a high-hat woman novelist. Everything goes wrong, and the poor women are in despair trying to make conversation. One member, to show up the bluffs of the novelist and her own fellow-members, starts everyone talking about "Xingu." No one knows what this is, but no one will admit it. During the squabble the novelist slips away with the woman who mentioned "it"—or "him"—and the others are forced to ask the maid, who knows "of course" that Xingu is a river!"

Class is Full. 1/27/14 12:25pm
Tuesday B (5:00-7:00pm)Pajama Party.  AGDT last performed this play in Summer 2011. Pajama Party is a 1-Act (25-page) script full of mystery and laughs. It is set in the 1950's and features poodle skirts, record singalongs, and more. This is an ensemble piece with funny roles that will give the opportunity for "character acting." We will work a lot on comic timing. There are 8 spaces available in this class.

Here’s the description from the Dramatic Publishing website – It starts off as the usual slumber party, complete with a scary ghost story and a parade of pajama costumes. Then a police car starts prowling the neighborhood in search of the Blue Light Burglar. And then comes the mystery girl!

The classes will begin on February 25 and run weekly through April 29.
Schedule for final week:
Monday, April 28 - 5-8pm group dress rehearsal (both classes).
Tuesday, April 29 - individual rehearsals (class 1 from 3-5pm, class 2 from 5-7pm).
These will be at the church.

I would prefer for any student to only miss a maximum of 2 practices.  While it’s not a requirement, it would be best for everyone involved if the full class can attend the first practice on February 25.  This will be the day parts are chosen for the play.

The plays will be performed at Faith Baptist Church, and the final week's rehearsals will be at the church as well.  The performance will be on Friday, May 2 at 7:00pm.

The girls will need to arrive at the church at 2:00 pm for a final dress rehearsal on the day of their play.  We will have dinner and have time to do everyone's hair and makeup before it's showtime!

COSTUME DAY will be on Saturday, April 5 from 10:00am-3:00pm. Each student will need to have a quick costume appointment during this timeframe.  This meeting will be at another location in Lees Summit (my parent's house), where my costume collection is housed.  Attendance at Costume Day is mandatory unless arrangements are made at registration.

Classes will be held at my house in Lees Summit.  I will send directions to the enrolled students' families before the classes begin.

Pricing is as follows: $95 for one daughter, $90 each for two daughters.  The class cost covers: 26 hours of rehearsal time, one-on-one acting coaching, script, free admission for family and friends to the performance, most costume and prop expenses (with the exception of any personal items such as tights), and performance day dinner/snacks.

Registration/Payment Info (this has changed; please read):

To register for a class:

1.  Fill out the registration form – Click here.

2.  Wait for Confirmation Email. This usually takes me a day or two. :)

3.  Once Confirmation Email is received, submit payment within 3 days.  Payment forms accepted are PayPal, Personal Check, or Cash.

*If I do not receive the tuition within three days of receipt of confirmation email, your registration will be bumped to the bottom of the class list (which in some cases will mean that it is no longer valid).

The full class fee is required with registration (if this is a problem, let me know and I’m sure we can work something out – it is a requirement due to problems I have had in past semesters).  Your registration and payment will hold your space in the class.  Note that the number of spaces is limited and will be filled first-come, first-serve, in the order I receive the registrations.  You can still email/call to ask about availability, but I can't hold spaces without your registration.

The registration deadline for these classes is Friday, February 21.  Click here to register for a class.
