Fall 2014 Class Information

Monday (3:00-4:30pm)Josefina: Christmas - Based on Josefina’s Surprise by Valerie Tripp.  Josefina and her family celebrate their Christmas traditions, but find it hard to carry on without their Mama.  This play is set in New Mexico and we will try to learn to speak with a Spanish accent to help with character development!  Character opportunities include Josefina, Tia Dolores, Ana, Francisca, and Clara.  There are 5 spaces available in this class.
I'm going to rename this play, but I haven't picked a title yet!

CLASS IS FULL.  8/5/14 11:30am
Thursday (2:00-3:30pm)Home for Christmas - Based on the book Changes For Samantha by Valerie Tripp and the movie Samantha: An American Girl Holiday.  This story is about Samantha's quest to help her best friend Nellie escape an orphanage in New York City at Christmas time. Character opportunities include Samantha, Aunt Cornelia, Uncle Gard, Gertrude, Miss Frouchy, Elsa, Nellie, Bridget, and Jenny. There are 5 spaces available in this class with 2 additional "little sister" (age 5-7) speaking roles. The little sis roles are at a 50% tuition rate.
Please note someone does have to play Uncle Gard! I've been assured by multiple students this summer that they welcome this challenge, so hopefully it will not be an issue.

CLASS IS FULL.  8/14/14 4:30pm
Thursday (4:30-6:00pm) - Kit's Hard Times - Based on Kit Learns A Lesson by Valerie Tripp. Kit wants to take matters into her own hands to help her family during the Thanksgiving holiday during the Great Depression, but she doesn't know how to help. She finds out that her dad has been visiting a soup kitchen for meals and is afraid that nothing will ever be okay again. Character opportunities include - Kit, Dad, Mother, Ruthie, Stirling, Mrs. Howard, Miss Hart, Miss Finney, Mr. Peck, Miss Fisher, Roger, Mabel, Dorothy, and Soup Kitchen Lady. There are 7 spaces available in this class with 3 additional "little sister" (age 5-7) speaking roles. The little sis roles are at a 50% tuition rate.
Please note someone does have to play Dad, Stirling, Roger, and Mr. Peck - though half of these are doubled with girl characters, too! I've been assured by multiple students this summer that they welcome this challenge, so hopefully it will not be an issue.

TWEEN CLASS:This is for girls who have been in at least 2 AGDT productions previously and are age 11-13 (must be turning 12 before May 31, 2015). It's a sort-of precursor to the Teen level class and will be performed on Friday, November 7 with the Teen class instead of Saturday, November 8.

CLASS IS FULL.  7/30/14 2:00pm
Monday (4:30-6:00) - Check Under the Bed - This play was originally published by American Girl. The story follows Margaret Maloney and her sleuthing daughter J.T. as the two find themselves stranded on a lonely night at The Peabody Hotel, a rather spooky old place. A mystery unfolds and J.T. is determined to solve it!  There are a lot of over-the-top characters and some pretty funny moments throughout the story. Character opportunities include - Margaret Maloney, J.T. Maloney, Miss Peabody, Jane Crumb, Carlotta Vanderpepper, and Dr. Veronica Brockett.  There are 6 spaces available in this class.

The classes will begin the week of September 14 and run weekly through the week of November 2. The 8th and final rehearsal will be at the church. The class times all remain the same.

I would prefer for any student to only miss a maximum of 2 practices. While it’s not a requirement, it would be best for everyone involved if the full class can attend the first practice on September 15, 16, or 18. This will be the day we pick parts for the play.

The plays will be performed at Faith Baptist Church in Lees Summit, MO. The performance of all classes will be on Saturday, November 8, at 3:00pm.

The girls will need to arrive at the church at 9:30 am for a final dress rehearsal on the day of their play. We will have pizza for lunch and have time to do everyone's hair and makeup before it's showtime!

Exception: Tween Class performs on Friday, November 7 during the Teen Performance.

COSTUME DAY will be on Saturday, October 11 from 10:00am-3:00pm. Each student will need to have a quick costume appointment during this timeframe. This meeting will be at another location in Lees Summit (my parent's house), where my costume collection is housed.  Attendance at Costume Day is mandatory unless arrangements are made at registration.

Classes will be held at my house in Lees Summit. I will send directions to the enrolled students' families before the classes begin.

Pricing is as follows: $80 for one daughter, $75 each for two daughters, $70 each for three or more daughters. The class cost covers: 17 hours of rehearsal time, one-on-one acting coaching, script, free admission for family and friends to the performance, most costume and prop expenses (with the exception of any personal items such as tights/undershirts), and performance day lunch/snacks.

Registration/Payment Info:

To register for a class:

1.  Fill out the registration form – click here.

2.  Wait for Confirmation Email. This usually takes me a day or two. :)

3.  Once Confirmation Email is received, submit payment within 3 days. Payment forms accepted are PayPal, Personal Check, or Cash.

If I do not receive the tuition within three days of receipt of confirmation email, your registration will be bumped to the bottom of the class list (which in some cases will mean that it is no longer valid).

The full class fee is required with registration (if this is a problem, let me know and I’m sure we can work something out – it is a requirement due to problems I have had in past semesters). Your registration and payment will hold your space in the class. Note that the number of spaces is limited and will be filled first-come, first-serve, in the order I receive the registrations.  You can still email/call to ask about availability, but I can't hold spaces without your registration.

The registration deadline for these classes is Friday, August 22Click here for the registration form!
