Storybook Theatre: Class Overview

New to Storybook Theatre? Here's more info on how our classes work! Each semester (spring, summer, fall), a list of classes is offered. These are split by age range.

Performance Classes - suitable for any skill level (beginning actors included), these classes meet for 8-12 weeks and wrap up with a semester-end performance that is free for family/friends to attend. Each individual class typically has 4-12 students and allows for one-on-one acting coaching and learning stage technique such as projecting the voice, being aware of body movement, and building a character. These classes have been part of Storybook for 12+ years and are our "standard" class offering. Performance classes are offered at multiple levels: -Kids (boys and girls ages 8-12)

-Teens (boys and girls ages 13+)
-High School Teens (ages 15+) Students should be the correct age by the end of the class; for example: if your child's 8th birthday falls during the course of an 8-week performance class, they are eligible to participate.

Improv Club - Improv, or improvisation, is the art of thinking on your feet - something very useful when you're onstage! This class is perfect for a beginner who wants to try out a class but doesn't want the commitment of a performance with lines to memorize. Returning students enjoy this class because they are able to invent new scenes and dialogues with each other every week, and stretch their creativity. Depending on the semester, this class is offered for kids ages 7-13 and/or teens, usually in 8-week blocks.

Craft Club - typically a class for girls ages 7-13. Offers a variety of projects using timeless crafting methods. Past projects have included sewing (by hand and with machine), flower making, Duck tape pens, braided rugs, painted pots, and many more. Craft selection varies depending on the number of students enrolled and the season. Class is offered in 4- or 6-week blocks.

"Little Stars" Preschool Classes - Little Stars will give younger siblings and new families alike the chance to have a running start at performing! Through dramatic play, we will explore worlds of creativity and imagination, create characters, basics of stage movement, expressing emotions, projecting voices, and much more. There will be a mix of games, music, movement, and speaking. Class will run in 8-week blocks. May sign up for full semester (with a discount) or attend weekly. During performance semesters, opportunities to participate in a performance are usually available.
"Rising Stars" 5-7 year old Classes - Rising Stars builds upon the skills and experience learned in Little Stars class, or introduces new students to all the fun that theatre can be. Utilizing dramatic play, improvisation games, and short scripts (no lines to learn - just repetition), kids will learn about creating a stage presence and using their whole body to show emotion. Class will run in 8-week blocks. May sign up for full semester (with a discount) or attend weekly. During performance semesters, opportunities to participate in a performance are usually available.
Class Location - All classes take place at Julie's house in Lees Summit, MO (near 291/Langsford). Address will be sent with class confirmation emails.
