Spring 2016 Schedule

NOTE FOR ALL PERFORMANCE DRAMA CLASSES: Costume Day is on March 19 from 9:30am-3pm. A 20-minute costume appointment is mandatory unless arrangements are made at registration.

For all drama classes, the first class will be an informal audition, with part assignments emailed within approximately 24 hours to those enrolled. Audition info will be emailed to those enrolled, but will primarily consist of an optional recitation of a 1-minute monologue, some readings from the script (for younger kids, if they are not comfortable reading aloud for the audition, no worries - I'll have some easier options), and a few other activities. Personal preference is always taken into consideration!

Storybook Theatre's Little Stars - ages 3-5

Thursday 10:30-11:00am
Classes begin: February 18 No class March 31.
Performance: Options to participate in one of the plays during the April 16 performance.

A newer class to our roster, Little Stars will give younger siblings and new families alike the chance to have a running start at performing! Through dramatic play, we will explore worlds of creativity and imagination, create characters, basics of stage movement, projecting voices, and much more. There will be a mix of games, music, movement, and speaking. Class will run 8 weeks (through April 14). Options in tuition section below to attend weekly or buy a multiple-class punch card up front.

Storybook Theatre's Rising Stars - ages 5-7

Thursday 11:00-11:45am
Classes begin: February 18 No class March 31.
Performance: Options to participate in one of the plays during the April 16 performance.

Rising Stars builds upon the skills and experience learned in Little Stars class, or introduces new students to all the fun that theatre can be. Utilizing dramatic play, improvisation games, and short scripts (no lines to learn - just repetition), kids will learn about creating a stage presence and using their whole body to show emotion. Class will run in 8-week blocks. Options in tuition section below to attend weekly or buy a multiple-class punch card up front.

Drama Classes for Girls - ages 15+

1/12/16 6:30pm CLASS IS FULL.
Tuesday 5:45-8:00pm Murder by Membership Only
Classes begin: February 9
Performance: April 30

This murder mystery-comedy occurs in the exclusive Orczy Club¸ an “inner sanctum” for women mystery writers in London. Most of them hate the arrogant Octavia Sturges¸ the most successful mystery writer of the day¸ so it is no surprise when she is found dead—poisoned by one of the poisons she was so fond of using in her stories. But what happens now? Should these specialists in murder try to solve the case themselves—at the risk of their own lives¸ since obviously the murderer is one of them—or should they call Scotland Yard? “How would it look if a roomful of mystery writers had to go to the police to solve a murder that took place under their very noses?” one of the characters in this play asks. The group decides to solve the murder themselves. Those present are the owner of the club¸ (a “big name” herself some years ago)¸ two other writers¸ a critic¸ a journalist¸ a visitor from America who has just had her first mystery novel published¸ the cook (whose food Sturges hates)¸ and Sturges’ long-suffering secretary. It is no surprise when Sturges turns up murdered. But there are many other surprises in this intriguing mystery play filled with humor¸ suspense¸ frightening moments and fun for the audience in trying to guess “whodunit?”
Note: we probably ARE NOT doing English accents, even though it takes place in London.
Time Period: 1930’s-1950’s-ish
