Performance day schedules remain the same; however there is one big change. Due to the need to streamline the performance day process to allow more students to be involved as we move forward, Storybook will no longer be providing pizza for lunch/dinner on performance days - BUT THERE WILL STILL BE S'MORES (there will always be s'mores)! This year, we have had our largest ever casts at the kids' plays and we are excited to see where we go from here. For the meals during performance day, we will ask that parents please send a labeled sack lunch. More details on that later!

Fall 2016 Class Information

For all drama classes with kids ages 8+, the first class will be an informal audition, with part assignments emailed within approximately 24-48 hours to those enrolled. Audition info will be emailed to those enrolled, but will primarily consist of a recitation of a 1-minute monologue, some readings from the script (for younger kids, if they are not comfortable reading aloud for the audition, no worries - I'll have some easier options), and a few other activities. Personal preference is also always taken into consideration!

Drama Classes for Boys and Girls - ages 3-7

Storybook Theatre's Little Stars - ages 3-5
Monday 5:45-6:15pm
August 22 - October 24
No class September 5, October 31
Performance: Options to participate in one of the plays during the November 5 performance.

Little Stars gives the youngest wannabe actors and actresses alike the chance to have a running start at performing! Through dramatic play, we will explore worlds of creativity and imagination, create characters, basics of stage movement, projecting voices, and much more. There will be a mix of games, music, movement, and speaking. Minimum 4 students to have the class.

Storybook Theatre's Rising Stars - ages 5-7
Monday 5:00-5:45pm
August 22 - October 24
No class September 5, October 31
Performance: Options to participate in one of the plays during the November 5 performance.

Rising Stars builds upon the skills and experience learned in Little Stars class, or introduces new students to all the fun that theatre can be. Utilizing dramatic play, improvisation games, and short scripts (no real lines to learn - just repetition), kids will learn about creating a stage presence and using their whole body to show emotion.

Fall Improvisation Club for Boys and Girls - ages 7-13

Thursday 3:30-4:30pm

Improvisation, or the art of thinking on your feet, is a very important part of theatre! This class is a fun intro to the world of theatre for those who are not sure they want lines to memorize or to be on a stage in front of people. Discounts are available when signing up for Improv + a performance class. Students may register for one session, multiple sessions, or attend weekly. See details in tuition section below.

Drama Classes for Girls & Boys - ages 13+

Thursday 6:30-8:30pm Inspector Detector and the Case of the Precious Treasure

A parade of fun-filled characters is mixed with hearty action to create a zesty search for the "precious treasure." When Pauline Precious inherits her grandfather’s estate, she tumbles into an evil plot filled with zany excitement! The yucky Baroness of Braunschweiger also has her eyes set on the treasure.  Along with her bumbling helpers, she tries to snatch the treasure away from poor Pauline. Enter our hero, Inspector Detector, who is prepared to solve mystery after mystery (such as the haunting ghost!)  and defeat the Baroness and her unsteady duo. This entertaining family play, filled with a spirited amount of interaction between actors and audience (including chase scenes), invites everyone to help locate the hidden treasure. Where is it? And for goodness sake, what is it?! Audiences and actors will love helping Inspector Detector put all of the pieces together in this delightful animated puzzle.

Drama Classes for Girls - ages 13+

Note: this class is INTENDED for ages 13+ but age 12 is okay as long as your student has participated in at least two past productions with Storybook Theatre.

8/18/16 - 12:30pm - space for 2 girls 13+ remaining
Monday 6:30-8:30pm Ms. Scrooge
Classes begin: August 22
Performance: November 4
No Rehearsal September 5, October 31

Why shouldn't an actress get a chance to portray one of the meanest roles ever created (such as Scrooge) or one of the more poignant (such as Scrooge's employee, here renamed Bobbie Cratchit)? There's also Bobbie Cratchit's heartbreakingly appealing child, Little Lisa (Tiny Tim). The script retains the original point, but it's with an entirely new twist that adds something unexpected to your theatrical Christmas festivities. Edna Scrooge has sacrificed human feelings of love and friendship to be a success. To her, Bobbie is just an impersonal office machine. Alone on Christmas Eve, the overworked Edna hallucinates—with the help of ghosts—about her grim past and even colder future. We already know what we're getting with old Ebenezer—but Ms. Scrooge is a whole new Christmas experience.
Time Period: Modern
Spaces in Class: 10, plus 2 girls age 7-11 (half price tuition)

Final Week Schedule:
Tuesday, November 1 - 5:00-7:00pm
Wednesday, November 2 - 6;30-8:00pm
Friday, November 4 (Performance Day) - arrive at 2pm
Rehearsal time, hair/makeup/costume prep are provided in this performance day time.

Please don't sign up for this class if your student will not be 15 or older during the fall semester. Occasionally exceptions are made for younger siblings who are near the appropriate age. This is on a case-by-case basis; please contact Julie to discuss.

8/21/16 - CLASS IS FULL.
Tuesday 4:45-7:00pm Little Women

This version of Little Women features only female characters and covers about half of the typical story of the four March sisters (it ends when Father returns home from the Civil War; after Beth has been ill, but prior to her death; when Meg has just become engaged and Amy is told she may go to Europe with Aunt March).

Notes:
Yes - this is an extensive rehearsal schedule. This play is very challenging and we will not produce it unless it is done well. Any students age 15+ are welcome to sign up - however, we will be doing this play again within the next two years. You are much more likely to be cast in one of the very large roles (Meg/Jo) when you are in upper high school, simply due to age/experience. Those who are 16-18 may not have another chance to participate in this play, depending upon when they graduate. Additionally, as we are adding a second performance, it is very likely that we will ask for your help to heavily advertise this production and that we will charge admission to attend. This is still in the works and more details will follow as they become available. Enrolled students will receive a pre-determined number of ticket vouchers/discounts. Students have been asking for multiple performances for several years - to make this a reality, we need to bring in an audience for it.
