Performance day schedules remain the same; however there is one big change. Due to the need to streamline the performance day process to allow more students to be involved as we move forward, Storybook will no longer be providing pizza for lunch/dinner on performance days - BUT THERE WILL STILL BE S'MORES (there will always be s'mores)! This year, we have had our largest ever casts at the kids' plays and we are excited to see where we go from here. For the meals during performance day, we will ask that parents please send a labeled sack lunch. More details on that later!

Spring 2017 Class Information

For all drama classes with kids ages 8+, the first class will be an informal audition, with part assignments emailed within approximately 24-48 hours to those enrolled. Audition info will be emailed to those enrolled, but will primarily consist of a recitation of a 1-minute monologue, some readings from the script (for younger kids, if they are not comfortable reading aloud for the audition, no worries - I'll have some easier options), and a few other activities. Personal preference is also always taken into consideration!

Drama Classes for Boys and Girls - ages 3-7

2/11/17 7:00pm - 3 spaces remaining
Storybook Theatre's Little Stars - ages 3-5
Monday 5:45-6:15pm
February 27 - April 17
Performance: Options to participate in The Brave Little Tailor during April 22 performance.

Little Stars gives the youngest wannabe actors and actresses alike the chance to have a running start at performing! Through dramatic play, we will explore worlds of creativity and imagination, create characters, basics of stage movement, projecting voices, and much more. There will be a mix of games, music, movement, and speaking. Minimum 4 students to have the class.

2/11/17 7:00pm - 4 spaces remaining
Storybook Theatre's Rising Stars - ages 5-7
Monday 5:00-5:45pm
February 27 - April 17
Performance: Options to participate in The Brave Little Tailor during April 22 performance.

Rising Stars builds upon the skills and experience learned in Little Stars class, or introduces new students to all the fun that theatre can be. Utilizing dramatic play, improvisation games, and short scripts (no real lines to learn - just repetition), kids will learn about creating a stage presence and using their whole body to show emotion.

Spring Craft Club for girls - ages 7-13

Tuesdays 10:30am-12:00pm
March 7, 14, 21, 28

It's been awhile since we have offered a craft club, but the goal of this class is to introduce today's students to some historical craft ideas in addition to more recent concepts. Past projects have included sewing (by hand and with machine), flower making, Duck tape pens, braided rugs, painted pots, and many more. Craft selection varies depending on the number of students enrolled and the season. Discounts available when signing up for this class in combination with any other in our schedule. Minimum 6 students to have class

If there is enough interest for this class in an evening time slot, we will attempt to add an additional session if possible. Please indicate your interest on the registration form.

Spring Improvisation Club for Boys and Girls - ages 7-13

Thursday 3:30-4:30pm
March 2 - April 20

Improvisation, or the art of thinking on your feet, is a very important part of theatre! This class is a fun intro to the world of theatre for those who are not sure they want lines to memorize or to be on a stage in front of people. Discounts are available when signing up for Improv + a performance class. Students may register for one session, multiple sessions, or attend weekly. See details in tuition section below.

2/11/17 - 7:00pm - CLASS IS FULL
Tuesday 6:30-8:30pm The Bremen Town Musicians
Classes begin: February 14
Performance: April 21

When the audience shows up to a rehearsal unexpectedly, the cast of "The Bremen Town Musicians" decides the show must go on even though opening night is a week away!  Actors scramble for found objects to serve as props and costume pieces while others worry about not knowing their lines.  Luckily, since the characters aren’t really musicians, the only music involved is a simple rhyme with stomping and clapping, and it doesn’t even have to be sung well!  The know-it-all squirrel narrator, Squire, bosses the others around while the vain bird Flinch gets his feathers — er, feather — ruffled when he keeps barging onstage demanding a part in the show!  The set and costumes are slowly "built" before our eyes as the play progresses.  The show gets on the road, but not without comedic speed bumps along the way!  The interruptions, squabbles and oversized egos don’t slow them down, they only make for more laughs!  With a little creativity and teamwork, the acting troupe pulls off the heartwarming story of four woebegone animals who find friendship, foil a gang of robbers and live happily ever after!
Time Period: Fantasy/Folk
Spaces in Class: 10

Tuesday, April 18 - 6:30-8:30
Wednesday, April 19 - 6:30-8:30pm

Monday 6:15-8:30pm The Ghost of Rhodes Manor
Classes begin: February 6 (auditions in January, please read schedule below)
Performance: April 28, 29

Rhodes Manor is a strange old house, and rumored to be haunted. Mrs. Rhodes, the owner has long been absent and a forbidding housekeeper, Deborah Cass, is the sole tenant. A letter from "an unknown friend" brings Helen Underwood, a mystery writer, to the manor in search of first-hand material. She rents the house for the weekend and brings Mary Fitzgerald, her efficient secretary, (who publicly pretends to be "Helen Underwood" to spare the timid Helen from publicity) and Glory, her maid. But two others have preceded them, Marcia Stone and Alda Iverson, a professional hypnotist. These two are prepared to take a hand in whatever happens in the eerie old house. Tillie Van Winkle, a perky old woman who wants to be a detective, also arrives at the Manor, and Biddy Hagerty, vigorous sheriff, come having been summoned by the housekeeper. Mrs. Rhodes also turns up, in reply to a letter from Deborah, which the housekeeper, strangely, insists she did not write. Nor did she rent the house to Helen. As the fast-moving story unfolds, it becomes evident a sinister force is bent on putting Helen Underwood out of the way; but since Mary pretends to be Helen, peculiar things happen.

Notes:
Yes - this is an extensive rehearsal schedule. This play is very challenging and we will not produce it unless it is done well. As a recent comparison - the script is 3 pages longer than Little Women.

After the success of our two-show run with Little Women in the fall, we are following the same model this spring. We will ask for your help to heavily advertise this production to be able to continue this production level. To keep this a reality, we need to bring in the audience for it. Tickets will be $5 if purchased in advance at rehearsals or $7 at the door.
