Summer 2017 Class Information

For all drama classes with kids ages 8+, the first class will be an informal audition, with part assignments emailed within approximately 24-48 hours to those enrolled. Audition info will be emailed to those enrolled, but will primarily consist of a recitation of a 1-minute monologue, some readings from the script (for younger kids, if they are not comfortable reading aloud for the audition, no worries - I'll have some easier options), and a few other activities. Personal preference is also always taken into consideration!

Drama Classes for Boys and Girls - ages 3-7

Storybook Theatre's Little Stars - ages 3-5
Monday 5:45-6:15pm
June 5 - July 24
Performance: Options to participate in one of our plays during the July 29 performance
Minimum 4 students
$70

Little Stars gives the youngest wannabe actors and actresses alike the chance to have a running start at performing! Through dramatic play, we will explore worlds of creativity and imagination, create characters, basics of stage movement, projecting voices, and much more. There will be a mix of games, music, movement, and speaking.

Storybook Theatre's Rising Stars - ages 5-7
Monday 5:00-5:45pm
June 5 - July 24
Performance: Options to participate in one of our plays during the July 29 performance
Minimum 4 students
$70

Rising Stars builds upon the skills and experience learned in Little Stars class, or introduces new students to all the fun that theatre can be. Utilizing dramatic play, improvisation games, and short scripts (no real lines to learn - just repetition), kids will learn about creating a stage presence and using their whole body to show emotion.

American History Class for girls - ages 7-12

Tuesdays 1-3pm
May 30 - August 1
NO CLASS July 4, July 18
Minimum 10 students
$125

This is a new option in our class schedule and is different from anything we have offered before! This class IS NOT a play, but will feature the opportunity to participate in a showcase at our July 29 performance.

This weekly club will focus on a different historical character and time period each week. At each session, we will have a hands-on learning experience based on the character. Most of these will be craft projects, but we will also feature historical fashion (with the opportunity to touch and try on historical clothing), sample historic treats, and learn about the worlds these characters would have lived in during days gone by. We are so excited to travel through America's past with our students in this class!

This class is held at Lees Summit PLAY, 403 SW Ward, Lees Summit, MO.
ALL other classes remain at the studio in Julie's home.
This class has a separate registration form which you can find HERE.
Registration for this class is required by May 26.

Summer Improvisation Club for Boys and Girls - ages 7-13

Thursday 5:00-6:00pm
June 8 - July 27
NO CLASS JUNE 22
$30, or $5/week if not attending full session

Improvisation, or the art of thinking on your feet, is a very important part of theatre! This class is a fun intro to the world of theatre for those who are not sure they want lines to memorize or to be on a stage in front of people. Discounts are available when signing up for Improv + a performance class. Students may register for one session, multiple sessions, or attend weekly. See details in tuition section below.

Bumbling producer Burbage and his irate associate Iggy have put together a Shakespeare convention, at which the actors perform four plays and a sonnet in a rather unconventional manner. Iggy is out to ruin Burbage, but loses the plot a little towards the end! Almost everyone in this script will have multiple roles to portray. This script features hilarious new interpretations of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo & Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew, and King Lear.
You can read the script online here if desired: http://www.lazybeescripts.co.uk/Scripts/Script.aspx?iSS=1114
